26 april 2007 - Kieslowski's "Bleu" (1993)

Tadaaaaaaa… tadaaaaa…

Yes, we know… you were waiting for this moment very loooong…
But, after this long wait, master Kieslowski will finally fill the projector wall with his excellent art.

After a difficult choice, the film “Bleu” (blue in English :D ) was elected. “Bleu” is the first film of the famous trilogy (“Bleu, Blanc, Rouge”), three independent movies that are actually not so independent since the characters are coincidently linked to each other in a Kieslowskian way.

According to Kieslowski, the subject of the film is Liberty, specifically emotional Liberty.
How can a filmmaker express the feelings for someone who won't, or can't, express them herself? In Bleu, the genius Kieslowski takes us brilliantly inside the head of the deliberately impenetrable Julie.

Like the other films in the trilogy, “Bleu” makes frequent visual allusions to its title: numerous scenes are shot with blue filters or blue lighting, and many objects are blue.

And we can’t forget the music… floating through the movie, a strong blue melody with the power to engage your mind, will challenge your senses…

Try it!
After all, he is our favorite director,

19 april 2007 - Chaplin's Modern Times (1936)

Shall we invite some machines, capitalism, mental hospital, communism, police, jail, strike, poverty, and a lot of satire… to our movie evening?

This Thursday… let’s watch something new, let’s watch Charlie Chaplin in action!

Charlie Chaplin’s "Modern Times" (1936) depicts the dehumanizing effect of mechanization in the poor industrial society. It is considered a silent film although it does contain some talk from inanimate objects such as a radio or a TV. It is also the first movie where Chaplin's voice is heard (in some nonsense song, tralala).
