Sedim na konari a je mi dobre means “Sitting on a branch and enjoying myself”. Why would anyone sit on a tree and just enjoy?...

In this special movie, Juraj Jakubisko offers a view of post WWII Czechoslovakia, on the hopes of rebuilding the country under the wings of socialism/communism. However, the initial optimism of the idea “everything will belong to everyone” turns into complete disappointment…
Interestingly, the same disappointment happened some years later (after 1989) when MTV, Coca Cola and McDonalds were presented as the bright future for the new “Czechoslovakia”…
Viva la allegoria! In his movies, Juraj Jakubisko (voted as the most significant Slovak filmmaker) manages to catch the life's most beautiful colours, unhide the poetry behind the ordinary and be ahead of his time... With its mix of humour, romance and tragedy, the style of “Sedim na konari a je mi dobre” somehow reminds the one of Kusturica. Whatever whatever whatever… what can one expect from a movie from Eastern Europe made in 1989 if not to be exciting?…
